Shop for Movember
Movember is here ... and at Gifts4Good, it's easy to raise funds for men's health while you shop. Our latest blog explains how you can get involved.
It's November, which means hairy upper lips are happening all around the world. It's a great reminder to consider men's health issues and support independent research into cancers among men and mental health issues.
The History of Movember
While it's now a global event, Movember can be traced back to a group of entrepreneurial men from Adelaide who in 1999 decided to grow moustaches to raise money for charity. The movement quickly grew, and in 2004 a separate group of men founded The Movember Foundation, which raises money for men’s health issues globally. Last year the foundation raised $21.7 million for Australian charities, including the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue. The campaign seeks to remove the stigma surrounding prostate cancer and promoting men’s health issues in general.

Figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show that in 2008, prostate cancer was the 5th most common cause of death among Australian men. 3,031 men died of prostate cancer in 2008 making up 4.1% of all male deaths. By comparison, prostate cancer proved to be the cause of more deaths in men than breast cancer in women.
